The Southern-Bok football game used to be a neighborhood rivalry with implications in division standings. Now, the teams play in separate divisions, making the yearly meeting a non-league contest.

The two squads came face-to-face Sept. 7, with Bok winning 38-0. This makes the Wildcats 1-0 in a young season. Luke Lassiter, who rushed for 147 yards, led the way with three touchdowns, including a 50-yard run. Quarterback Mike Nelson and Maurice Goodwin hooked up on a 31-yard touchdown pass, while Kendall Johnson ran for the other score.

The loss dropped Southern, who opens league play Sept. 15 against Edison, to 0-2.

Bok will travel to the Haverford School Sept. 16 for a non-league match-up. The two-time defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District 12 AAA champs begin their title defense Sept. 29 with a league-opener against Southwest Philadelphia’s Communications Tech, a first-year Public League squad.
