BBQ CHALLENGE
The Neil Stein/Garry Maddox BBQ Challenge begins 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at Citizens Bank Park prior to the Phillies game against the Atlanta Braves. The event is open to the public. Proceeds benefit the Youth Golf & Academics Program, which is designed to support kindergartners through sixth-graders residing in troubled city neighborhoods. The Philadelphia Recreation Department conducts its annual golf program at Cobbs Creek Golf Club, 72nd Street and Lansdowne Avenue. This program features instruction from members of the Philadelphia section of the Professional Golfers Association for the first three days along with two days at a public golf course. The Neumann-Goretti baseball team has qualified for the New Jersey state baseball championship tournament, which gets under way today in Bridgewater, N.J., and runs through July 22. The Saints advanced by finishing second in the Delaware Valley South Jersey League standings with a 14-7-2 record.
