SPORTS DEADLINE

The deadline for sports notices is noon Monday. Submissions should be typed or neatly printed with both a contact number for verification and one for publication. Names should be spelled properly and include both first and last names. Phoned-in items will be rejected.


BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

BBQ CHALLENGE

The Neil Stein/Garry Maddox BBQ Challenge begins 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at Citizens Bank Park prior to the Phillies game against the Atlanta Braves. The event is open to the public. Proceeds benefit the Youth Golf & Academics Program, which is designed to support kindergartners through sixth-graders residing in troubled city neighborhoods. BOXING NEWS

Rogers "The Tiger" Mtagwa will fight for the vacant NABF featherweight title against Mexico City’s Aldo Valtierra July 20 at the New Alambra, Swanson and Ritner streets. DVYAA FALL BASEBALL

GOLF CAMP

The Philadelphia Recreation Department conducts its annual golf program at Cobbs Creek Golf Club, 72nd Street and Lansdowne Avenue. This program features instruction from members of the Philadelphia section of the Professional Golfers Association for the first three days along with two days at a public golf course. NEUMANN-GORETTI BASEBALL

The Neumann-Goretti baseball team has qualified for the New Jersey state baseball championship tournament, which gets under way today in Bridgewater, N.J., and runs through July 22. The Saints advanced by finishing second in the Delaware Valley South Jersey League standings with a 14-7-2 record.


NEUMANN-GORETTI VOLLEYBALL

Tryouts for the Neumann-Goretti volleyball team begin 3 p.m. Aug. 14 in the school gym at 10th and Moore streets.


NIKE JUMPMAN BREAKFAST CLUB

The official Nike Jumpman Breakfast Club will be held 8 to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 21 at the Hank Gathers Recreation Center, 25th and Diamond streets, for ages 9 to 18. The day includes agility tests, 3-on-3 tournaments, basketball instruction and giveaways. Call 215-685-2710.


SEYAA OUTDOOR SOCCER

Registrations are under way for the SEYAA outdoor fall soccer program, which begins Sept. 8. Age divisions are: 4 to 6; 7 to 8; 9 to 10; 11 to 13; and 14 to 16.
