Eagle eyes

The 2012 Philadelphia Eagles are a closed chapter in the beloved franchise’s not-so-storied championship history. There were many weeks that fans either eliminated Bird watching from their regular routine or enjoyed an afternoon of channel surfing to the more exciting games.

The got-to-do-a-better-job excuse is no longer acceptable for local fans who are giving the home team a fresh start thanks to the new high-octane approach that coach Chip Kelly has introduced this preseason.

Some will sit back in that comfy leather recliner Monday night when the Eagles open the season at FedExField while others will make the three-hour commute south on Interstate 95.

For some, at least for eight weeks, the weekly tradition includes joining the crowd of 67,000-plus inside Lincoln Financial Field, 1020 Pattison Ave., but it’s a tough and expensive ticket.

Sharing the neighborhood with the four local pro sports teams means the diehard fans looking to escape from the house for that three-plus-hour window have plenty of options to choose from, and they’re all a short drive away. Many offer game-day specials and entertainment.
