Shooting victim left critical

Detectives need the public’s help in locating whoever pulled the trigger that left a 24-year-old critically wounded Friday.

Police found the man at about 10:50 p.m. at 22nd and Pierce streets with multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen, buttocks and legs, Detective Jim Dunlap of South Detective Division said. The victim was taken to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.

Detectives have been unable to successfully interview the victim because of his condition, Dunlap said.

Gunplay leads to shooting

A 16-year-old who was showing a firearm to his 15-year-old girlfriend wound up discharging the weapon and shooting the girl in the leg, police said.

Police charged the 16-year-old with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of crime and related charges, Detective Jim Dunlap of South Detectives said.

The two were playing with the gun Monday at about 3:40 p.m. in a home on the 1400 block of South Etting Street when it went off, the detective said.

Police found the girl inside the house with a gunshot wound to the left calf.


Man charged with assault

A man was arrested in North Philly Monday and charged with a shooting that happened here two days earlier.

Darnell Timms, 19, from the 2600 block of Jackson Street, was nabbed on the 3000 block of North Fourth Street at about 7 p.m., Detective Jim Dunlap of South Detectives said.

Timms was charged with aggravated assault, firearms violations and related offenses for shooting a 16-year-old in the right leg Saturday.

No gun was recovered from Timms.

The teen was walking home from a relative’s house on the 2700 block of Wolf Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. when he encountered a man, later identified as Timms, the detective said. After the two passed each other, the teen heard gunshots, turned around and spotted Timms firing at him, police said.

There is no motive at this time, police said.

The teen was taken to HUP in good condition.


Biker wounded

A 19-year-old was shot in the leg Saturday while riding his bike on the 1900 block of South Norwood Street.

The teen told investigators he heard several gunshots then felt pain in his right thigh and realized he had been shot, Detective Jim Dunlap of South Detectives said.

The teen rode home after the 2:15 p.m. shooting and a family member drove him to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was admitted in good condition.

Investigators found four .25-caliber fired cartridge casings at the scene, but have no suspects at this time.

Arrest in killing outside daycare

Seventeenth District police charged a man with murder for a Dec. 22 slaying of a man outside a daycare center.

Marcus Clark, 19, from the 600 block of Dudley Street, was charged with the murder of Jamar Smith, 30, from the Frankford section, Homicide Fugitive Squad Detective John Keen said.

Jan. 5 at about 3:30 p.m., officers picked up Clark on the 1600 block of Snyder Avenue, Keen said.

Smith was ambushed in broad daylight with a half-dozen bullets outside Discovery Place Pre-School, 2031 S. Seventh St. Smith was pronounced dead at HUP less than 30 minutes after the 2 p.m. slaying.

Detectives still have no motive for the slaying.


Tips lead to drugs, gun

Armed with two tips from the Gun Recovery and Reward Information Program (GRRIP), narcotics officers made three arrests Jan. 17 and confiscated a gun, drugs and cash.

The first arrest took place at about 7 p.m. on the 1900 block of South 23rd Street, where two people were taken into custody and more than $5,000 worth of prescription drugs were recovered, Narcotics Bureau Cpl. Anthony Piluso said. Police confiscated more than 1,000 Xanax and Percocet pills, along with three bottles of Codeine syrup, Piluso said. The total value of recovered narcotics was $5,727. More than $1,000 in cash also was seized.

Rayvine Hadley, 21, of the above address, and Denise Yeiser, 37, from the 1500 block of South 19th Street, were both charged with conspiracy; manufacture and delivery; and possession.

Four hours later, narcotics officers arrested an employee of Eight Brothers grocery store after they recovered a stolen, loaded, Glock 9mm pistol off of him, Piluso said.

Jose Torres, 32, from West Philly, was arrested outside the store at 2201 Morris St. He was charged with receiving stolen property and weapons offenses.
