Shareef Haynes is in police custody for allegedly expressing a desire to hurt a Philadelphia Police Department officer Feb. 25.

Authorities revealed that at around 6 p.m. on that date, the 20-year-old, whom court records list as having a 19147 zip code, approached an officer on the 600 block of Ritner Street. The law enforcement official rolled down his window to inquire on how he could help the man, police said, with Haynes reportedly threatening to shoot him. Officer Michael Edwards stated he tried to exit his vehicle but that Haynes pushed the door to prevent his escape. The police officer eventually exited and contends Haynes removed his hands from his pockets and gestured in the shape of a gun, leading Edwards to call for backup.

When Haynes reportedly refused to surrender, another officer used a Taser on him. Authorities transported the supposed aggressor to Methodist Hospital and charged him with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, and false imprisonment. He had not posted his $25,000 bail as of press time and awaits a March 10 preliminary hearing.
