As the recent heat wave tickled the 100-degree mark, the more than 2,200 seniors that depend on the air-conditioning unit at the Philadelphia Senior Center, 509 S. Broad St., stayed cool as can be. July 19, the Avenue of the Arts was blocked off for workers to exchange the center’s deteriorated — and unusable — old units with chilly, fully powered replacements.
