Witness points to killer

Police responding to a shooting found Maurice Fox, 29, of Upper Darby, unresponsive on the sidewalk of the 1600 block of South 54th Street at 7:23 a.m. Sunday.

One of six male witnesses spotted Tony Cooper, 31, of West Philadelphia, shoot Fox inside a rear bedroom. Following the incident, Cooper fled on foot north on 54th Street, according to a report. Police took Cooper into custody at 54th Street and Chester Avenue and he was positively identified by a witness.

Cooper was charged with murder and possession of an instrument of crime, according to court records.

Fox was transported to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania where he was pronounced dead at 7:55 a.m.


Basement slaying

A man was found lying in his basement dead from multiple gunshot wounds Friday morning.

Marcus Ramsey, 33, was shot in the right leg, stomach and back at 11:47 a.m., in his home on the 7300 block of Garman Street, Officer Tanya Little of Police Public Affairs Unit said. Ramsey was transported to HUP, but was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m.

No arrests have been made and a motive has not yet been determined.

Gas station shooting

A suspect possibly responsible for a May 7 driveby shooting at a gas station is in custody, while the potential rental car used is in police possession.

A man driving a burgundy Buick, pulled out of a gas station cutting off a 25-year-old driving a gray Nissan rental car at 6:07 p.m. on the 2400 block of Island Avenue, according to a report. One man allegedly fired several shots from the passenger side rear window at the vehicle before putting the gun inside his driver’s side window firing several more shots, one of which hit the victim in his back.

The offenders drove south on Island Avenue. The driver was unharmed, but the passenger was taken to HUP in stable condition.

At 10:45 p.m., Sharon Hill police spotted the car matching the description of the offender’s vehicle, which is now in police custody. A suspect also is in custody, but has not yet been charged, Officer Jill Russell of Police Public Affairs Unit said.

Trail of blood

A man, who left a blood trail for almost a block from where he was shot, was found with five bullet wounds behind a 7-Eleven May 8.

After getting a report of a shooting at 9:30 p.m. on the 7000 block of Grovers Avenue, police followed a trail of blood to the 2600 block South 70th Street where they found a 19-year-old male, who was shot five times – three times in his back and twice in his right forearm. The man was transported to HUP in stable condition, but did not give any details of his shooter.

Known rapist

While asleep, a woman was allegedly raped and assaulted by an acquaintance Monday evening.

Eugene McNeill, 42, of the Northeast, allegedly kept insisting on having sex with the 31-year-old woman, but she denied him, according to a report. After she fell asleep at 6:10 p.m., she told police the suspect raped her and assaulted her simultaneously on the 900 block of South Paxon Street. The woman had scratches on her left shoulder and neck, bite marks on her chest, as well as bruises on her neck when he allegedly choked her.

McNeill, who was intoxicated and arrested at the scene, was charged with rape and related offences.


Parent stabbed

A teen threatened to kill his mother after an argument with his father, who was stabbed instead early Sunday.

The 17-year-old from the 7300 block of Sanderling Place argued with his 56-year-old father when the dad accused the teen’s friend of disrespecting the teen’s mother, according to a report. The boy then allegedly threatened to kill his mom on Mother’s Day, got a knife from the dishwasher and walked toward his parent’s bedroom at 3:30 a.m. The father intervened, which resulted in the son allegedly stabbing him in the left hand. The knife was recovered and the suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and related charges.


Robbed by acquaintances

A man was robbed by two men and a teen whom he knows May 7.

Walking east on Warrington Avenue, Two men, "Twin" and "Creasy," approached the 25-year-old from behind and each allegedly put a gun to a his head around 10:45 p.m., according to a report. One had a black revolver while the other had a chrome .357 Magnum. A 15-year-old male was also with the men. The trio stole $175 and a $175 cellphone before fleeing westbound on Warrington.

Friendly greeting

A man greeted a woman before robbing her of a phone and cash Tuesday.

While walking toward 71st Street from 69th Street and Woodland Avenue, a man said, "hey sweetheart" to a 28-year-old woman at 2:09 a.m. to which she responded, "I’m good" and continued walking, according to a report. The woman heard the man ask her to come over to him and she heard a gun cock. The man allegedly took her cellphone from her hand and ordered her to give him money. She complied giving him $280 before he fled in an unknown direction. The woman flagged down police. Her cellphone was recovered in a car along with a gun.
