Unwelcomed guests

A Grays Ferry family fled its apartment Sunday afternoon after three unknown armed men made an unwelcomed entrance.

As a 30-year-old was sitting in her apartment complex courtyard on the 3100 block of Wharton Street, a trio of men approached her at 4:14 p.m., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. One put his hand over her mouth, escorted the victim inside her home and pushed her on the couch before the men roamed to the back bedroom.

As the woman’s 7-year-old daughter exited the bathroom, she motioned the girl toward her and the mother and daughter ran out of the home.

When the men — each armed with a handgun — reached the rear bedroom, they entered, but the 32-year-old husband, who was in the room, jumped out the window and ran through the courtyard looking for his family, Tolliver said.

No one was injured and none of the family members knew any of the perpetrators, Tolliver said.

The first suspect was described as black with a light complexion, age 30, 6-foot-2, 220 pounds and wearing a black jacket, black gloves and a gray knit hoody. The second man was described as black, age 25 to 30, 5-foot-9 and wearing a black cloth over his face while the remaining suspect was described as black with a dark complexion, age 25, 5-foot-7, 160 pounds and wearing a black jacket.
