A vacant building near Sixth Street and Snyder Avenue was inflamed Monday and deemed an arson.

The Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Mercy Street at 7:20 a.m. Dec. 5, Acting Executive Chief Capt. Jeffrey W. Thompson said. The two-story building had heavy fire and smoke conditions on the first floor, but was under control within 12 minutes. The dwelling was vacant, but traces of flammable liquids were found inside.

It was unclear at press time why the building was set on fire.
