A pair of robbers attempted to hold a man at gunpoint, but when he fought back, the firearm discharged and the offenders fled empty-handed.

A 25-year-old was standing on the 600 block of Porter Street smoking a cigarette when the men approached him at 10:30 p.m. June 13, according to police. The armed man pointed his weapon at the smoker, who started a struggle, which resulted in the firearm discharging numerous times. The gunman and his accomplice fled south on Sixth, west on Shunk Street and south on Marshall Street. No one was injured and nothing was taken from the intended target.

The gunman was described as black with a dark complexion, age 23 to 24, 5-foot-9, thin, 160 pounds; having a long beard and wearing a dark-colored hoodie. His accomplice was described as black with a medium complexion, age 23 to 24, 6-foot-3, thin, 170 to 180 pounds and wearing a dark-colored hoodie.
