The owner of a West Passyunk establishment ended up bound and robbed Monday afternoon.

The complainant noted she was working inside Grace Grocery Story, 2049 S. 19th St., at 12:14 p.m. when an unknown female came in and asked for help with an item after having dallied for a few minutes. Having placed a selection on the counter, the patron walked around the site a second time, later pulling out a large knife and demanding money after having approached the cash register area, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

The proprietor gave the aggressor approximately $100, but she demanded more and resorted to tying the owner’s hands with duct tape before grabbing numerous cigarette cartons. She then punched the complainant in the head and face multiple times, added duct tape to her mouth, pilfered her cell phone and attempted to smash it before leaving the store northbound along 19th Street, Tolliver said.

Once a customer entered, the owner, who sustained minor injuries, was able to call authorities, who are looking for a black female, ages 25 to 30, 5-foot-2, 225 pounds; and wearing a black winter hat, a navy blue sweatshirt, loose blue jeans and sneakers.

Authorities are also seeking the suspect for a Tuesday morning robbery at Dollar Tree, 2437 S. 23rd St. At 8:17 am, she entered the establishment and shortly afterward demanded money from an employee, using a large knife to intimidate the worker. After receiving an undetermined amount of cash, she fled the store, heading south on 23rd Street.
