The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals continues to look for clues since posting a $2,000 reward Feb. 7 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the death of the six pit bulls found dead along the railroad tracks in South of South Jan 30.
Workers were completing a routine inspection of the tracks at 26th Street and Washington Avenue when they spotted several black trash bags containing the canines’ remains. The PSPCA’s humane law enforcement officers reported to the area and transported the bags back to their headquarters.
The investigation is ongoing. Each animal had extensive injuries and wounds, and appeared to have died within 24 hours of discovery, the nonprofit’s Director of Humane Law Enforcement George Bengal said.
“Until we have more details, we don’t want to speculate on the cause of the death, but we do know that these animals did not die of natural causes,” he said. “We urge anyone with information about how these dogs died or who placed them in that area to contact us.”
