To his chagrin

A man suffered a single gunshot wound in West Passyunk last week.

Officers ventured to Methodist Hospital at 2:53 a.m. April 2, having learned of the status of the complainant, who bore a gunshot blast to the left side of his left knee, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He then received a transfer to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, which listed him in stable condition.

The man relayed that he and his roommate had just exited a taxi at 20th Street and Snyder Avenue when they decided to walk across the street to a Chinese food establishment. Standing in front of a barber shop, they soon had to deal with the advances of a male with a gun. After they refused his demand to empty their pockets, the offender fired a shot to the ground.

A second entreaty also failed to move them, so he fired another shot that struck the chief complainant before fleeing on foot, last seen heading northbound on 20th Street, Tolliver said.

The complainants retreated to their apartment and locked the door, with the lead figure initially believing that a pellet gun bullet had struck him. Realizing he was bleeding, he arranged for a taxi to take him to Methodist. He described the attacker as black, 25 to 30 years old and 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10; having a thin build and a goatee; and wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants.
