Canines and their owners frequent Marconi Plaza, 2700 Broad St., leading it to be deemed the best place to walk your dog.

“We know that there’s a lot of people that walk dogs in the park,” Rich Cedrone, president of Friends of Marconi Plaza and South Philadelphia Communities Civic Association, said. “We’re in the very long process of making a dog park.”

That project would include sectioning off part of the park, which spans 13th to 15th streets from Oregon Avenue to Bigler Street. Ideally, Cedrone said, they would ask those who utilize it help to maintain it. In the nearer future, the group aims to add stations that would supply bags and disposal areas for dog waste in order to keep the site named for Italian physics Nobel Prize winner, Guglielmo Marconi, cleaner for all to enjoy.

Cedrone, too, takes his pooch, a poodle named Snickers, for strolls in the historical green space that was designed in the mid-1910s to serve as the grand entrance for the Sesquicentennial Exposition, which celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence signing in ’26.

“I just think because of the landscape and how big it is, dogs obviously would rather go in a park than up a city street,” the resident of the 2700 block of South Iseminger Street said.

Columbus Square Park fetched second, and FDR Park leaped into third.
