An area man was identified as the alleged thief who stole from a Northeast Philly Kmart jewelry counter with his 6-year-old daughter in tow.

Angel Ortiz, 47, allegedly entered Kmart at 9:20 a.m. with his daughter and walked to the jewelry display where he pried open a case with a screwdriver, according to the Police Public Affairs Unit. After he is believed to have taken a few items totaling about $3,000, he and his child fled the area in a gold Ford Taurus.

The next day Northeast Detective Division received a tip on the suspect. At about 3 p.m., police located Ortiz on the 1600 block of South Ninth Street where he resides.

Ortiz was arrested and charged with retail theft, possession of an instrument of crime and corruption of a minor. Ortiz also has four open cases involving theft and burglary dating back to November, according to court records.
