Having secured The Waterfall Room, 2015 S. Water St., the previous evening, the complainant arrived at his establishment at 10 a.m. Oct. 23 and observed holes in the roof and ceiling and a business ladder located below the ceiling hole, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He also noted damage to his office door, with approximately $11,000 missing from his desk.
Watching the site’s surveillance cameras with a business manager, the owner identified Jason Moncrief, an ex-employee, as the alleged thief. At approximately 10 a.m. Friday, authorities arrested the 21-year-old resident of the 2500 block of South Philip Street on the 2300 block of South American Street and after executing a search warrant, recovered approximately $6,500 from the suspect, Tolliver said. They charged the Whitman resident, who awaits a Nov. 14 preliminary hearing, with possession on an instrument of crime, theft, criminal trespassing, burglary and criminal mischief.
