A Point Breeze robber who held up a Passyunk Square gas station allegedly borrowed a relative’s car to use as his getaway vehicle early Sunday.

Ellis Rashan, 23, of the 2300 block of Dickinson Street, is believed to have entered Sunoco, 1100 S. 10th St., and said, “Give me the money. Don’t make me shoot you,” to a 28-year-old male employee as he reached for his waistband at 6:46 a.m., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The cashier handed over $200. As customers entered the store, the offender allegedly fled and headed southbound on 10th and west on Federal Street in a dark blue Hyundai Sonata.

Witnesses provided the license plate number to detectives, who saw the vehicle parked on the 2300 block of Dickinson Street when they went to speak to the car’s registered owner, Tolliver said. The owner, a relative of the suspect, allowed Rashan to borrow the car. Detectives spotted him allegedly sneaking out the back door of his home, stopped him on the 1400 block of South 23rd Street and confiscated $200 dollars, including a bill with a Sunoco-recorded serial number on it.

Rashan was arrested at 8:50 a.m. and charged with robbery, terroristic threats and related offenses, according to court records. He did not post bail, which was set at $75,000 Monday, at press time.

Police towed the vehicle and received a search warrant for the home where more evidence was recovered, Tolliver said.
