A teen allegedly fired multiple gunshots at an officer trying to disperse a young crowd on South Street Saturday evening.

Bike cops directed a large group of teens traveling westbound over the South Street bridge south on the 600 block of South Front Street at 11:11 p.m., Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Devon Marcus, 16, who has been charged as an adult, according to the District Attorney’s Office, supposedly tried to get by the officer — identified as Michael Alice in court records — and headed north, but Alice stopped him and directed him to head home, Tolliver said. The juvenile of the 5300 block of Willows Avenue in Southwest Philly is believed to have agreed and started to walk south.

Alice and his partner kept an eye on him and slowly trailed him to ensure he continued in that direction when 30 feet later, Marcus allegedly turned around, pulled a gun from his waistband and fired four times, Tolliver said. After missing the officer, he is believed to have fled south on Front and west on Bainbridge Street. The officer chased the boy on his bike to the 600 block of South American Street where he jumped off and arrested him. A gun check did not return an owner or a stolen status for the weapon.

Marcus was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, recklessly endangering another person and three firearms violations including possession of a firearm by a minor. He remained in prison at press time as bail was set at $750,000, according to court records.
