Sure, most Philadelphia theater companies take a break in the summer and come back strong in the fall. But there are still a bunch of chances to see some really great talent on stages across the city through August.

Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company embarks on its 10th summer of free theater with Allen Radway directing “The Tempest” in parks around the region (July 8-25) but we wouldn’t miss the world premiere of “Rage of Achilles” with a ticketed August residency at Drexel (Aug. 6-22). Flashpoint Theater Company just wrapped its impressive “Hands Up: 6 Playwrights, 6 Testaments” and will bring to life “Lulu’s Golden Shoes” by Pulitzer-winning Quiara Algeria Hudes July 15-Aug. 2. Mauckingbird Theatre Company, one of Philly’s premiere LGBTQ-oriented companies, holds its beloved Miss Cast 6, a night of “songs sung by the wrong people,” with local legend Jennie Eisenhower as host. That same weekend they’ll stage a reading of Larry Kramer’s “The Normal Heart.” Aug. 28-30. mauckingbird.org.

Orbiter 3 is the thrilling new project from a group of six young theater artists, and their first work’s written by South Philly’s own James Ijames. The Ed Sobel-directed “Moon Man Walk” is easily a summer stage highlight. June 27-July 19. Tickets: $12-$22. The Prince Theater, 1412 Chestnut St. orbiter3.org.

Shakespeare in Clark Park is a time-tested treasure of outdoor summer theater and a great reason to revisit “The Winter’s Tale,” a production that typically employs a huge cast and inventive production techniques. July 29-Aug. 2. Free. Clark Park, 4398 Chester Ave. shakespeareinclarkpark.org.
