After hopping on the Broad Street Line Sunday, a man was mugged with the train en route and forced to exit three stops later by his robber.

An 18-year-old was waiting for the train at the Oregon Avenue station when an unknown teen asked for the time, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He informed the teen it was 10:05 p.m. and stepped aboard the train.

The suspect followed him to his seat, Tolliver said. Sitting on his right, the perpetrator pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from his jacket, placed it on his lap and said, “I know you have some money.” The 18-year-old ignored the statement, but the other teen retrieved his cell phone and iPod from his pockets before demanding that he exit the train at the Ellsworth-Federal station.

Upon exiting the station, he flagged down police on the 1200 block of South Broad Street, Tolliver said. The man believed that the suspect remained on the northbound train.

He was described as a black male, age 17 or 18, 5-foot-9, thin, with a light brown complexion and acne and wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans.
