A man discovered the true gender of his girlfriend, who allegedly stabbed him and gave police a false name, last week in Newbold.

A 21-year-old man flagged down police on the 1700 block of Morris Street at 1:28 p.m. Aug. 10, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. His lower left shin was bleeding. He pointed at his girlfriend, Nigera Burton and told officers she had stabbed him with a broken glass bottle on the 1700 block of South 18th Street.

The two were allegedly dating for about three weeks, but were arguing when Burton allegedly threatened to kill the man, but instead sliced him with the bottle, Tolliver said. When the man went to call police, Burton is believed to have taken his cell phone, so he walked around the corner and flagged down a passing police car.

The man was transported to Methodist Hospital where he received seven stitches and was released, Tolliver said.

Police arrested Burton, who was still at the scene and transported him to the 1st District headquarters, 2301 S. 24th St., where detectives discovered that Burton was Herman Burton, a 22-year-old man from Southwest Philly, Tolliver said. The 21-year-old told police he was unaware that his girlfriend was a man.

Burton was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, robbery, theft — unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Hermon was previously on probation for a 2006 disorderly conduct and was behind bars for 21 days in Northampton County after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct in ’07, according to court documents.
