Police were summoned to the Oregon platform on the Broad Street Line June 9 where they found a 46-year-old with multiple stab wounds.

The man provided a description of the offenter to police at 1:20 p.m. and said he had been stabbed on the train for an unknown reason, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.

A medic unit transported him to Hahnemann Hospital in guarded condition, Tolliver said. Doctors performed exploratory laparoscopic surgery to his abdomen to discover possible internal injuries. He received 63 stitches including 25 to his abdomen, 15 to the right side of his forehead, three to his nose, three to the back of his shoulder, three to his left bicep, three to his right arm and one to his lower back. He also was admitted for further treatment.

Police were notified at 2:28 p.m. that a man matching the description was being treated at Methodist Hospital for being punched in the left eye, Tolliver said. Sheldon Millington also known as Sheldon Mullings, 35, of Germantown, allegedly told police that he fought another man on the subway.

Millington allegedly requested to use the bathroom while in the waiting area of the hospital. Police frisked him and found a pair of scissors in his front pants pocket, Tolliver said. Millington then is believed to have waived his rights and confessed to stabbing the 46-year-old.

Millington was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats.
