A bicyclist helped to track down one of his supposed attackers in Newbold last week.

Riding along the 1800 block of Ellsworth Street at 8:25 p.m. Nov. 13, the man observed a teenager throw a rock at him, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said, with another youth, whom he saw hiding behind a truck, allegedly standing up and striking him in the face with a stick, which he later described as a tree branch that broke upon impact.

Retaining his balance, he chased after the males after they began to hurl obscenities at him. He said the second figure ran to a residence on the 1900 block of Ellsworth Street, while the first bolted toward 19th and Manton streets.

Officers located the reported stick swinger in the alley of the 1900 block of Annin Street, with the complainant identifying him as his aggressor, Tolliver said. They charged the 15-year-old with possession of an instrument of crime, criminal conspiracy, aggravated and simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. The other teenager, whom he described as 16 to 017 years old, 5-foot-8, having a thin build and dark complexion and wearing a blue denim jacket, remains at large.
