After a failed attempt at retaliation against the man he thought wounded his buddy in the face, Christopher Goodwin gunned down his target’s uncle.
Goodwin, 22, of the 2100 block of South Marston Street, was found guilty and sentenced to life without parole May 28 for the murder of Dwayne Issacs, 48, of the 2100 block of South 26th Street, according to court records.
“Days before this murder Christopher Goodwin’s friend was shot in the face during a home invasion,” Assistant District Attorney Lorraine Donnelly said. “Word on the street was Dwayne Issacs’ nephew was somehow involved. Since [Goodwin and his friends] couldn’t find the nephew, they killed Dwayne Issacs.”
Goodwin walked up to Issacs at 12:18 a.m. June 26, 2011 on the 2600 block of Jackson Street, firing at him even after he fell to the ground, Donnelly said. He received five bullets to his head, neck and chest and was pronounced dead 12 minutes after medics arrived to the scene.
Three individuals were later arrested for the home invasion — none of whom were Issacs’ nephew, Donnelly said.
In addition to murder, a jury found Goodwin guilty of carrying a firearm in public and possession of an instrument of crime, according to court records.
