A Lower Moyamensing resident was arrested for assault and then allegedly vandalized police property.

Luis Cadiz, 23, of the 800 block of Jackson Street, was in a cell at South Detective Division, 2301 S. 24th St. at 12:46 p.m., less than 12 hours after he was arrested in the 3rd District for an assault on the 800 block of South 11th Street, according to police.

While in jail, Cadiz allegedly broke the fire sprinkler in his cell room, which resulted in the room to flood and caused every cellblock sprinkler to go off, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detectives said. Damages totaled about $15,000.

Cadiz was charged with institutional vandalism, causing catastrophe and criminal mischief on top of his original charges of aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to court records. His bail was set at $25,000, which he had not posted as of press time.
