A Bella Vista man was arrested for attempting to steal his neighbor’s pipes, which resulted in a flooded basement.

A 40-year-old man heard noise coming from his neighbor’s home that he was watching over for the 37-year-old owner, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The former man walked over to the home on the 700 block of South Sixth Street at 9:30 p.m. Friday and noticed the door was open and the basement lights were on. Then another neighbor, Francis Brocco, 40, allegedly ran up the steps soaking wet and said there were cut pipes and water in the basement.

Via evidence found at the scene, police linked the crime to Brocco, who did not have permission to be in the residence, Tolliver said.

He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, burglary, trespassing, possession of an instrument of crime, theft and receiving stolen property, according to court records. Brocco posted a percentage of his $6,000 bail Saturday.
