A man threatened to stab a deli clerk if he did not hand over cash Saturday.

""The offender placed a soda on the counter at Phan’s Deli, 1542 S. Sixth St., at 4:25 p.m., unzipped his jacket, whipped out a large butcher knife and said to the 62-year-old employee, “give me the money. If you don’t give me the money, I will stab you.”

The man gave him a $20, but since he saw more money in the till, he commanded it. He fled the store south on Sixth and west on Fernon with $45 total.

The man was described as Asian, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5-foot-8, having an average build and black hair; and wearing a dark-colored jacket, blue jeans and white gloves.
