A Point Breeze man was sentenced to five to 10 years at Graterford state prison for attempted murder of a doughnut shop employee.

Wilbert Saunders, 51, pled guilty to attempted murder of the first degree May 9, according to court records. He must also undergo mental health and a drug and alcohol assessment.

The resident of the 1900 block of Tasker Street walked into Dunkin Donuts, 2025 S. Broad St., at 12:16 a.m. Aug. 20, 2010 and placed an order, but when the 22-year-old male employee placed his requested beverage on the counter, Saunders pulled a gun from his pocket and demanded the worker open the register, according to police. When he didn’t comply, Saunders fired once at his face and fled. Police apprehended him on the 1400 block of West Passyunk Avenue.

The victim was treated at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for a broken nose and wound to the face.
