A parcel deliveryman was assaulted in East Passyunk Crossing after refusing to hand over a package without seeing identification Friday afternoon.

The 48-year-old UPS driver parked his truck at 1:05 p.m. on the 900 block of McKean Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. As he was readying for a delivery at the back of his vehicle, a man asked if there was a package for a specific address on the 800 block of McKean. The worker retrieved the requested parcel and asked for the gentleman’s identification, but he did not have it. The UPS employee refused to hand him the package without ID.

Then the man hopped into the truck and demanded the item, Tolliver said. When he still objected, the man pushed the deliveryman on the front dashboard and struck him several times before fleeing empty-handed east on McKean.

The UPS driver suffered minor injuries to his head, jaw and left ear, Tolliver said.

The attacker was described as black and 6 foot; having a medium build and short hair; and wearing a red jacket with a black hood.
