An area man was sentenced after pleading guilty to raping a 5-year-old girl last summer.

Anthony Chestnut, 37, of the 2500 block of South Sheridan Street, will serve seven-and-a-half to 15 years in jail for rape, forcible compulsion and endangering the welfare of a child, according to court records. He was sentenced June 26 after pleading to the charges March 13. He is currently imprisoned at Graterford in Montgomery Country.

He was accused of the child’s assault in Lower Moyamensing July 8, 2011, but authorities could not locate him. Tipsters steered the U.S. Marshals Service to Chestnut Nov. 14, ’11 when he was living in a 5-by-30-foot metal tube behind Devon Self Storage, 12 E. Oregon Ave.
