Eleven bags of marijuana were confiscated from a 10-year-old’s backpack at his elementary school Tuesday.

Another student tipped off the assistant principal at Thomas Morton Elementary School, 2501 S. 63rd St., that the fourth- grade boy brought drugs to school, Fernando Gallard, a spokesman for the School District of Philadelphia, said. After the staff investigated, 11 bags of marijuana were found in the student’s bookbag. Three more were distributed to other pupils including two fourth-grade girls and a third-grade boy.

Philadelphia Police were called to the scene and parents of the involved children were contacted. Morton Elementary also sent out a letter to parents informing them of the incident. The pupils involved in the incident were suspended that day and will likely be transferred to a disciplinary classroom upon return to school, Gallard said.

The school investigation is ongoing as police are looking to find where the boy got the drugs.

Southwest Detective Division would not comment on the incident.

Walter Vicks

A 10-year-old boy was sexually assaulted by a North Philly teen inside a Southwest Philly home March 26.

Walter Vicks, 18, of the 1500 block of North 19th Street in North Philly, allegedly stopped a boy, who was riding his bike around 1:30 p.m., held a knife to him and forced the victim inside a home on the 1600 block of South 56th Street, said Officer Jill Russell of the Police Public Affairs Unit.

The police were called when a neighbor heard screaming coming from inside the dwelling. Police entered the property and Vicks fled north on foot, but was stopped by police a short distance from the home. The boy, who police deemed was sexually assaulted was transported to Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia while Vicks was transported to Mercy for minor injuries sustained in the pursuit, Russell said.

According to court documents, Vicks was charged with rape, aggravated assault, sexual assault, corruption of a minor and 11 related offenses.


Cabbie stickup

After driving two passengers to their destination, both hold a gun to their driver demanding money March 26.

The 43-year-old cabdriver picked up the two men at 40th and Walnut streets and they requested to be taken to 58th Street and Angora Terrace at 10:33 p.m., according to a report. On the 5800 block of Angora Terrace, one male exited the cab, allegedly pulled out a gun, placed it on the driver’s side window and said, "This is a stickup. Give up your money." The second offender, who was still in the car held a gun to the back security glass. One male fired a shot, but it did not strike the driver, but the victim gave the men $214. The offenders were described as black men, in their 20s, 5-foot-10 and slim. The first wore a black hoody while the second had a green hoody.

Tied up

Two men broke into a home and tied up a man, took him to Cobbs Creek Park, and shot him in the leg early one morning last week.

The two suspects allegedly broke into the 32-year-old man’s home on the 5700 block of Malcolm Street at 6 a.m. March 26. The offenders allegedly placed a blanket over the man’s head, tied him up with extension cords and took several hundred dollars before placing him in a car when one of the men asked, "was there anyone to call to get money?" He was taken to Cobbs Creek Parkway and Thomas Avenue where he was removed from the car and shot in the right leg before the offenders drove away in an unknown direction, according to a report.

The 32-year-old man, who has 12 prior arrests including narcotics and firearm violations, was transported to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. No further description was given for the suspects.

Cashed out

A man got into a woman’s car and demanded money. When she didn’t have any, he ordered her to go to an ATM and take some out.

Michael Cavaleri, 38, of the 6500 block of Dorel Street, approached a 50-year-old woman, who was in her car around 12:18 a.m. March 27. With a knife in her hand, the suspect entered her car through the passenger’s door threatening to kill her if she didn’t hand over some dough, according to a report. Since she only had Visa and Mac cards, Cavaleri allegedly continued to threaten her and demanded that she take him to an ATM. When she got into an automobile accident at 65th Street and Lindbergh Boulevard, he took her wallet and fled north on foot. Police found Cavaleri underneath a car on the 6500 block of Bobolink Place. Both the knife and the woman’s wallet were recovered. Cavaleri was charged with robbery and related charges.


Woman raped

A man lured a woman into his home for drugs and then allegedly sexually assaulted her early Saturday morning after picking her up in his car.

The offender picked up the 40-year-old woman in a dark colored vehicle on the 7100 block of Buist Avenue and drove her to his house at an unknown location, according to a report. He told her to follow him up to his bedroom, informing her that he had crack. Once inside the bedroom the man pushed her on the bed and said, "The last girl didn’t satisfy me and my son is sleeping, so don’t scream and wake him up." He then allegedly held her down and raped her.

The man was described as a black male, age 40 to 50, 5-foot-11, dark skin, 160 pounds, thin, mustache and beard, wearing tan pants.

Surrendered

When police arrived at his home, a man admitted to stabbing his wife Monday night.

After a verbal argument at 11:27 p.m. on March 30, Robert Kirby, 61, of the 6600 block of Woodland Avenue, stabbed his 57-year-old wife in the stomach, according to a report. He told police when they came to his door, "I’m the one you’re looking for. I stabbed my wife. She’s in the bedroom." His wife was transported to HUP and is in fair condition. Kirby was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and related charges.


Teen charged with attacking officers

Two plainclothes officers were allegedly assaulted by a teen they believed was trying to steal a bike early Saturday.

At about 1 a.m., police saw a 17-year-old from the 6500 block of Saybrook Avenue stripping a bike chained to a pole on the 1200 block of Bainbridge Street in South Philly, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. After the boy realized the men were officers, the boy began swinging a tire from the bike at them, Toliver said.

The teen was charged with theft and receiving stolen property, as well as two counts of resisting arrest, aggravated assault and related offences.

The officers received minor injuries, but medical treatment was not needed, Tolliver said.
