A SEPTA bus driver was shot at the end of her bus route in Grays Ferry last week.

The 46-year-old had stopped her Route 79 bus at Vare and Snyder avenues at 11:09 p.m. Sept. 6 after dropping off the last of her passengers, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. As the bus was stationary, a man walked to the door pointed a gun at it and insisted she open it. Disregarding his request, she drove off, but soon heard two shots fired, which struck the bus’ door with one of those hitting her right arm.

As she notified SEPTA of the incident, she drove herself to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Tolliver said. Police arrived at the hospital and carried the woman to the emergency room where she was treated and released for her wound.

Police recovered ballistics evidence from the bus, but not at the location of the shooting, Tolliver said. The motive was unknown at press time.

The suspect was described as black, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6, thin and wearing a dark-colored hoody.
