Police arrested a Whitman resident for her alleged robbery of a Pennsport store last week.

The complainant, a security worker at Rite Aid, 10 Snyder Ave., reported at 8 a.m. Feb. 25 that he saw a woman selecting and concealing various merchandise in a black bag, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He added that when store employees confronted the shopper, she allegedly resorted to using force to make an escape attempt.

She supposedly continued to do so until authorities arrived and arrested her without incident. They charged 51-year-old Alice Kane, of the 200 block of Jackson St., with simple assault, retail theft and robbery. She had not posted her $2,500 bail as of press time and awaits a March 17 court date.
