Three of the victims who were wounded after gunfire erupted on a Newbold street early Saturday told police they did not know the shooters, but even if they did, they would not have identified them.

Two 19-year-olds and a 21-year-old were playing cards outside on the 1700 block of Manton Street at 1:35 a.m. when two or three men fired shots at them from 18th and Manton streets, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The trio sprinted east toward 17th Street before splitting up. Police found one of the 19-year-olds on the block with a wound to his left calf. The other 19-year-old, who was struck in the upper back, right leg and left hand, flagged down police on the 1400 block of Federal Street while eldest, who was shot in his left ankle, located police on the 1500 block of Wharton Street.

All three were transported to Jefferson where they were treated and released, Tolliver said.

A 36-year-old also was struck with a bullet in his left ankle as he was standing at 17th and Manton, Tolliver said. He also was transported to Jefferson for a broken ankle. He did not get a good look at the shooters.

Police recovered ballistics evidence from the scene and found a broken rear window of a red 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, Tolliver said. There was no motive or suspects as of press time.
