The City of Philadelphia has pushed back its Actual Value Initiative until tax year 2014, therefore, the Homestead Exemption application deadline — previously July 31 — has been extended to Nov. 15. Those already submitted will be processed for ’14. Homeowners who have not submitted a form to qualify for the tax-relief program, will receive one via mail by September.
For this year, tax year ’13, the City will use values from tax year ’11 to calculate bills, with adjustments for subsequent improvements, demolition and destruction. For the approximately 25,000 properties that will have an assessment change, this year, the City will mail a notice by Sept. 17 prior to the bill’s December distribution.
Next year’s new value notices will be distributed in February.
