A pharmacist was convicted of running a pill mill from his Dickinson Narrows office.

Richard Minicozzi, 78, of Elkins Park, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and 17 counts of distribution of controlled substances March 14, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and not guilty on one distribution count, according to court records.

Minicozzi, with the help of his assistant Joan Israel, of the 700 block of Morris Street, purchased pills, such as oxycodone, hydrocodone and alprazolam, from pharmaceutical supply companies and repackaged them for sale at his office between about January 2005 to September ’10, according to court records.

Israel and Minicozzi falsified records to make it seem as though patrons received physical exams and treatment even though they did not and allowed customers to use multiple names to obtain medicine. Minicozzi also dispensed 60 Vicodin pills to an undercover officer Nov. 17, ’08.

Israel pled guilty March 13, according to court documents. Both will be sentenced July 2. Minicozzi faces at least a decade in jail, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
