A brave bicycle owner thwarted a potential thief Monday in South of South.

The 45-year-old man left his ride unlocked outside Ultimo, 2149 Catharine St. While inside the coffee shop, he noticed someone inspecting his possession, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Stepping outside to confront the observer, he pushed the peruser after he tried to run off with it.

The two fell to the ground, with the offender punching the victim’s face then fleeing westbound on Catharine, Tolliver said. The complainant, who denied immediate medical attention after suffering knee and elbow scrapes and reporting back pain, retained the bike.

The offender was described as a black male, age 19, 6-foot, with a thin build, short black hair and wearing a blue Nike T-shirt, dark-colored capri pants and black Chuck Taylor sneakers.
