Thanks to help from his friends, a man was able to reclaim stolen possessions in Passyunk Square Friday.

Walking along Seventh and Morris Streets at 11 p.m., he had an encounter with an unknown male who allegedly tried to remove money from his pockets, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The complainant escaped and fled to his home, but the eager figure supposedly followed and caught up with the individual as he reached the residence.

The chaser reportedly took cash and a cell phone from the complainant, whose friends opened the door to his abode, upon which time he grabbed the offender, telling his acquaintances the man had robbed him, Tolliver said.

The friends recovered the items from the alleged thief and released him right away, but officers surveyed the area after receiving flash information and stopped 20-year-old Justin Weikel on the 700 block of Watkins Street, arresting him after positive identification from the complainant.

They charged the resident of the 2400 block of South Third Street with robbery and theft.
