A man was surrounded by a group of young men and robbed in Grays Ferry last week.

A 58-year-old was walking east along the 2700 block of Mifflin Street when a group of unknown men passed him, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Upon strolling by the group, one of the members of the group smacked the man on the back of his head.

When he turned around the group of at least five men began to surround him, Tolliver said. One of them, who had a small, black revolver, said, “see what he has.” The man, now surrounded, swung his arms in the air, yelled and ran east on Mifflin and north on 26th Street. He eventually found a man outside who called police.

The man had cuts to his hands, but declined medical treatment and a neighbor bandaged his hand, Tolliver said.

The men were described as black, age 16 to 20 and 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6. The armed man had a light to medium complexion, was thin and was wearing a dark blue T-shirt. One was thin and wearing a dark purple T-shirt with large white lettering across the chest and a dark-colored ball cap while another was wearing a light-colored T-shirt.
