With the holidays approaching, the Philadelphia Fire Department offers the following tips for Christmas tree safety.
Since the trees dry out quickly inside a home and can catch fire if a heat source touches the tree, add water daily to its stand to keep some moisture in the tree. Use tree lights with a UL (Underwriters Laboratories) label and turn off the lights before leaving home. Keep heat sources, such as candles, radiators or portable heaters, away from the tree.
