The motive of a double homicide remains unclear for two residents found dead in their home.
Eugene Zappacosta, 78, and Janet Burgess, 50, both of the 1300 block of Dickinson Street, were found inside their dwelling at 9:48 a.m. Tuesday, Officer Jill Russell of the Police Public Affairs Unit said. Both of their necks were slashed, among other stab wounds, and were pronounced dead 10 minutes later. Two dogs also were found dead at the scene.
Authorities did not have a motive or any suspects at press time, but neighbors deemed Juniper and Dickinson streets unlike the rest of the neighborhood.
“This is a corner where there is a lot of drug and prostitution activity,” a neighbor, who did not wish to be named, said.
