Misery over money

A man required stitches after an attacker robbed him of cash last week.

Law enforcement officials met the unfortunate figure, who was bleeding from his head, on the 700 block of Snyder Avenue at 12:45 a.m. May 1 and learned that he was heading to an ATM on the same thoroughfare when someone approached him to ask for a cigarette, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The individual replied that he could not help and proceeded to the machine.

Right after he dispensed $40, he suffered a punch to the left side of his face, a blow that sent him to the ground and gave the attacker time to take the cash before making a westbound escape on foot.

Authorities transported the man to Methodist Hospital, where he received five stitches. He described the offender as a white male, 5-foot-8, 160 pounds and 30 to 35 years old; wearing a black hat and a dark jacket; and sporting a black hoop earring.
