An argument that led a Southwest Philly man to shoot a man within a block of his Newbold/Point Breeze home will spend decades behind bars.

Brandon Sylvester Johns, 24, pled guilty to third-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime and three counts of recklessly endangering another person, so Court of Common Pleas Judge Benjamin Lerner sentenced him to 25 to 50 years in prison May 22.

Sylvester gunned down Ronald Barrett, 58, of the 1400 block of Ellsworth after a verbal altercation on the 1100 block of South 15th Street at 10 a.m. Aug. 1, 2012. Barrett died at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania that night due to numerous wounds to his stomach back and leg.
