Authorities arrested a man for allegedly threatening another male in Newbold.

At 12:57 a.m. Monday, police received a call for a robbery in progress on the 2300 block of South 20th Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detectives Division said. They learned the complainant had caught an unknown male inside his vehicle and engaged in a brief altercation with him upon inquiring about his presence.

The offender supposedly pulled out a small black handgun and threatened to shoot the complainant, who quickly backed off, with the reported perpetrator fleeing the area on foot. The victim returned to his car and followed the aggressor to 19th and Fitzgerald streets, where the latter allegedly pulled the firearm again, leading the complainant to call police.

At 3:15 a.m., police picked up information that a figure fitting the description of the culprit was located at 21st Street and West Passyunk Avenue, Tolliver said. Detectives stopped the person, with the complainant identifying him as the transgressor. Police arrested Bruce Dean, of the 1500 block of South 30th Street, and charged the 30-year-old with possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, making terroristic threats, robbery, attempted theft and firearms violations. He awaits a July 30 preliminary hearing.
