Making ’em green with envy

Winners from the PHS City Garden Contest include the following area residents and locations.

Community Combination Garden (flower and vegetable):

Southwark Queen Village, 311-33 Christian St., captured first place in the large category.

Bel Arbor Community Garden, 1010-40 Kimball St., won second place while Capitolo Garden, 10th and Federal streets, made off with a third-place finish in the mid-size category.

Ellen Greenberg, of the 600 block of League Street, and Stephen Maciejewski of the Fitzwater 2000 Community Garden, 2042-2044 Fitzwater St. captured first place in the small category.

Community Flower Garden:

Mary Ward-Bucher claimed first place in the small category for Hicks Street Memory Garden, 1835 S. Hicks St.

In the special needs-large category, Michele Cheng finished in first for Programs Employing People, 1200 S. Broad St.

Garden Block:

Kimberly Miller, of the 500 block of South Kauffman Street, earned first-place distinction.

Greenest Block:

Holly Keefe, of the 700 block of South Sears Street, finished in third.

Scott Diskin, a resident of the 800 block of South Hancock Street, won an honorable mention.

Community Park:

Carla Puppin, of the Friends of Bardascino Park, 10th and Carpenter streets, won first-place while Greg Line claimed third for Beck Park, Second and Beck streets in the small category.
