Larry Fine

Of the six men who comprised The Three Stooges, Fine logged the second-longest tenure at 44 years. Blessed with exceptional comedic timing, a willingness to be a buffoon and an unforgettable hairdo, the native of the 300 block of South Street left audiences in hysterics, often as the victim of jabs, pokes and slaps from colleague Moe Howard. The Queen Village product and alumnus of the Southwark School showed off his musical mastery during the trio’s run, too, as he occasionally wielded a violin in episodes, having learned to play as a boy to strengthen an arm that had suffered damage from an acid burn.

Fine briefly boxed, too, but elected to become a humorous heavyweight who posthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1983. Fanatics can still catch clips of the talented South Philly figure and peruse his funny face playing his instrument by inspecting his 13-year-old mural.
