Kenny Gamble

His last name implies doubt, but Gamble has proven himself a reliable individual in two fields. The 69-year-old product of 15th and Christian streets catapulted to the top of the music industry through his 1971 co-founding of the Center City-based Philadelphia International Records, a venture that has seen him write and produce works for artists such as The Jacksons, Lou Rawls and The O’Jays. A member of the Dance Music, National Academy of Songwriters and Rock and Roll halls of fame, he also earned a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in ’99 for having a hand in the creation and promotion of more than 3,000 songs.

Celebrating his 20th anniversary as the founder of Universal Companies, which strives to enhance community growth, especially for African-American families, in his native South of South, Grays Ferry and Point Breeze, Gamble is striving to build up the next generation of societal contributors through helping to helm the Universal Audenried Charter High, Institute Charter and Vare Charter schools.
