A former Philadelphia Municipal Court Judge will spend the next two years in prison for fixing cases on behalf of campaign donors and political allies.

On Jan. 22, Joseph C. Waters, whom Michele Mucellin, Law Enforcement Coordinator and Director of Outreach for the United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, said grew up in South Philadelphia, received his sentence four months after pleading guilty to single counts of mail and wire fraud. According to prosecutors, he looked to influence a pair of cases before other municipal figures as a favor to those willing to help him in future elections.

Along with his prison stint, the 61-year-old will have to pay a $5,500 fine, which is the estimated sum of all the campaign donations and gifts of event tickets and alcohol that he received as bribes.
