Johnny be good

Although the category has not appeared on the ballot since 2008, Johnny Chang’s, 2601 S. Broad St., has remained at the top of the sushi chain, and owner Johnny Chang couldn’t be more ecstatic for his restaurant’s victory.

“We are always happy to hear positive reviews from our customers, so to be considered the best in any category for another year is a thrill,” Chang, whose eatery claimed top ethnic restaurant (non-Italian) from 2009 to ’11, said.

Since its ’06 opening, the Lower Moyamensing spot has impressed its customers with delicious sushi, which Chang claims is all for his patrons.

“The key to success of any business is to satisfy the customers. It is difficult to accommodate everyone’s requests, but we try our best and will continue to do so in hopes to remain our customers’ favorite in the future,” Chang said.

As for the secret to making the best sushi in South Philly, the chefs take an artistic approach.

“We believe creating any food, including sushi, is an art and only those who believe in their work can create art that can be appreciated by many,” he said. “That is why we have chefs who really enjoy what they do: Creating sushi that is appealing to the eyes and, most importantly, to the taste buds.”

Izumi and Hibachi 2 Go rolled into second and third places, respectively.
