Klugman’s TV roles date back to the 1950s, but the two this former South Philadelphian is probably most well known for were sportswriter Oscar Madison as one half of TV’s “The Odd Couple” and medical examiner Quincy M.E. on the show of the same name. The former ran from 1970 to ’75 while the latter ran from ’76 to ’83. More recently, he appeared on a 2002 episode of NBC’s “Crossing Jordan.”

Klugman’s storied small-screen career included 10 Emmy nominations and three wins, two of which came for his performance on “The Odd Couple.” He also claimed a Golden Globe for the same role. The other Emmy honor came in ’64 for his role as Joe Larch in “The Defender.” He appeared alongside former co-star Tony Randall in the ’83 TV Movie “The Odd Couple: Together Again.” Klugman, who passed away in December at the age of 90, also starred on Broadway in ’98 in Neil Simon’s “The Sunshine Boys.”
